Why It’s so Frustrating to Educate Kink and BDSM

This is quite possibly the best essay I’ve ever read arguing for more education of the writers who wish to condemn kink and BDSM. I love Andrea Zanin’s discussion on the “distancing” factor or “my kink is better than yours” and also how for some of us, our “wild and kinky” lives are the quotidian, nothing more, nothing less. Further, distinguishing crime from consensual play is stellar. I am reminded of a moment when a psychologist asked me, quite earnestly, “if we lived in another world, (implying a world wherein we do not have such misery,a brave new world perhaps), wouldn’t [my] job not exist?” I looked her square in the eye and responded, “perhaps not, but neither would yours”. Let’s face it, we do not live in a world of black and white and the fact is, shitty people are shitty people, no matter their profession, nor their sexuality. The ARTICLE is long, but well worth the read!
